  • Report: Minnesota tried to talk Jimmy Butler for Bradley Beal trade with Washington, was turned away

The Washington Wizards have been an absolute train wreck this season, a team where the players’ clearly do not like each other. The Minnesota Timberwolves started the season as a train wreck, with Jimmy Butler doing his best to burn the franchise down in an effort to get traded. Word is the Wolves did try to engage Washington — another team falling well short of expectations — in trade talks for the sharpshooting guard Bradley Beal.

  • Why Scott Brooks is not about to lose his job coaching Washington

The Washington Wizards are bad. Worse than all those numbers is the player interaction and body language — guys jogging through cuts (John Wall, we’re looking at you), player not high fiving or even communication much on the court, and when Bradley Beal or another player gets knocked down driving to the rim it’s often guys on the other team there to help him back up. In most places, that means coach Scott Brooks would be next to hang out with Tyronn Lue sipping margaritas on a beach in Mexico happy to be away from the disaster of their rosters in the unemployment line.

  • Capitals fan wins 50/50, donates prize to Pittsburgh shooting victims

Playing the 50/50 raffle at a sporting event is a fun way to test your luck while supporting a good cause, but it is extremely rare that you will ever actually win the prize. On Wednesday night, with the Pittsburgh Penguins visiting the Washington Capitals, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation – the charitable organization that works alongside both the Washington Wizards and Capitals – was set to donate 50% of the draw earnings to the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh. A Capitals season ticket holder had his number called for the $19,285 jackpot, with the entire earnings for the contest coming in at $38,570.
