  • Tony Parker receives warm welcome, surprise visit from French family in return to San Antonio

Tony Parker wearing a Charlotte Hornets uniform in San Antonio on Monday was a strange sight, indeed. The four-time champion with the Spurs made his first NBA appearance as a visitor after spending 17 years in San Antonio that included six All-Star nods and a Finals MVP. While the Spurs faithful tormented Kawhi Leonard up his return trip with the Toronto Raptors, there was nothing but love for Parker, who left town as a free agent last summer as the Spurs looked to revamp their roster.

  • Tony Parker: Kawhi Leonard didn't leave Spurs because of me

Last March, Tony Parker – who, unlike Kawhi Leonard, already returned to play regularly for the Spurs – said his quad injury was 100 times worse than Leonard's. Michael C. Wright of ESPN: Parker regrets how that played out and finds it “unbelievable” some fans thought the comments played a role in Leonard's desire to leave San Antonio. If people think that, then they're really wrong,” Parker says, addressing the situation publicly for the first time.

  • Parker faces Spurs for first time with Hornets

Tony Parker has never played against San Antonio -- it's likely he doesn't even know where the visitors' locker room is at the AT&T Center -- but will get his first chance on Monday when the Charlotte Hornets visit the Alamo City to square off with the Spurs. Unlike the vitriol showed former Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard two weeks ago when he played his first game against San Antonio, expect the reception for Parker to be a warm one. Monday's game is also a return to San Antonio for Hornets rookie coach James Borrego, who spent four seasons as an assistant with the Spurs.

  • NBA's Tony Parker says he's ready to contribute in Charlotte

For the first time in 17 years, NBA standout Tony Parker will not don the black, silver and white of the San Antonio Spurs when the league's season opens. After having won four championships with Gregg Popovich's team, and at the end of his contract, Parker signed a two-year deal with the Charlotte Hornets, reportedly worth $10 million. The six-time NBA All-Star -- whose African-American father played professional basketball in Europe, mainly in France -- intended to retire in San Antonio, but the stars were not aligned for that storybook ending.
