  • DeRozan's 26 points leads Spurs past Jazz 110-97

The San Antonio Spurs are starting to feel better about their play, which is a welcome sign for the former defensive stalwarts following a series of blowout losses. DeMar DeRozan had 26 points and eight assists and Rudy Gay added 23 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Spurs to a 110-97 victory over the Utah Jazz on Sunday night. Donovan Mitchell scored 27 points for Utah, which had its two-game winning streak snapped.

Antetokounmpo had 34 points and 18 rebounds, and the Bucks overcame an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the San Antonio Spurs 135-129 on Saturday night. “I was feeling relaxed,” said Antetokounmpo, who scored 14 points in the final period and heard chants of “MVP! MVP!” each time he stepped to the free-throw line. DeMar DeRozan scored 34 points for the Spurs, who took a 106-95 lead with 11 minutes to play after a jumper by Rudy Gay.

  • Was Spurs’ LaMarcus Aldridge fouled on potential game-winning shot?

Memphis certainly got the benefit of the doubt on two questionable calls in the final second of the Grizzlies 104-103 victory in San Antonio. First, Rudy Gay was called for a foul on Marc Gasol‘s attempted game-winner — there certainly was body contact as Gay closed out that threw Gasol off balance. Gasol drained both free throws, which proved to be the game winners.

  • Rudy Gay finally feels 100 percent after torn Achilles: ‘I feel athletic again’

Rudy Gay, coming off a torn Achilles in 2017, was not quite his vintage self last season for the Spurs. In the 57 games he played he looked like a solid third option — 11.5 points per game, a surprisingly good defensive rating — but he played fewer minutes than ever before in his career, and he shot just 31.4 percent from three. In the playoffs he showed his importance — the Spurs were 9 points per 100 possessions better when he was on the court — but he was never going to make up for what they lacked with Kawhi Leonard out.
