  • Wolves' owner: Butler turned down max extension offer

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jimmy Butler has turned down the team's four-year, $110 million max-level extension offer, owner Glen Taylor said on Friday. Appearing on ESPN 1500 Twin Cities radio, Taylor described the exchange between the two sides as cordial, but noted that Butler and his representatives intend to seek a more lucrative contract when Butler becomes eligible next year. "They said, 'You guys have done everything and we're very appreciative, but our bet is that we should wait 'til next year and get ourselves a better deal,'" Taylor said.

  • Jimmy Butler pays up after NBA fan sends fantasy basketball league bill

Jimmy Butler got jokes. When Jimmy Butler gave out his cell phone number during his introductory Minnesota Timberwolves press conference this past summer, NBA fan Sheldon Jack Bowen signed the All-Star wing up for his fantasy basketball league and added his number to a group text with his friends as a practical joke. Butler never texted back, never made a roster move, and therefore lost the fantasy league.

  • Thibodeau laments lack of toughness; Wolves try to hang on

The Minnesota Timberwolves have seven games to go in this strenuous regular season, coming tantalizingly close to the tormented franchise's first appearance in the playoffs in 14 years. Beginning a supposedly softer stretch of their schedule that has the potential to help propel them to the finish line, the Timberwolves took an egregious loss on Monday to a languishing Memphis team that had lost all 17 road games to date in 2018. The outcome only furthered the doubt among an embittered fan base about whether the Wolves can hang on long enough without All-Star shooting guard Jimmy Butler to finish in the top eight in the Western Conference.
