  • James Harden's 30-point streak now second-longest ever

James Harden scored 42 points tonight. Not enough to beat the Timberwolves. But enough to make history.

  • Timberwolves' Josh Okogie blocked James Harden's stepback

Teams throughout the NBA are struggling to deal with James Harden's stepback jumper — he can hit the thing out to 28 feet, can slide left or right as he does it to create space, and if you close out on him you run the serious risk of a foul. Some teams are not contesting, the Bucks tried to turn him into a driver sitting on his right shoulder (they can get away with that since Brook Lopez and Giannis Antetokounmpo were waiting in the paint), but nobody has a good answer. Minnesota's Josh Okogie did better than anyone — he blocked the shot on Wednesday night.

  • Anthony Davis to play Friday after NBA warned Pelicans of $100,000 fine for resting him

Anthony Davis is playing — and starting — for the New Orleans Pelicans Friday night against the Timberwolves in a nationally televised game. Coach Gentry says Anthony Davis will play tonight. Davis had been medically cleared for nearly a week now and wanted to play, but the Pelicans held in out in advance of the trade deadline to protect him from injury in case a trade they liked came together.

  • Pelicans balancing Davis' playing time with future concerns

But for now, coach Alvin Gentry and other Pelicans veterans sound inclined to try to make it work. "He's obviously made it known that he won't sign back, but he still loves the game of basketball. I know that he loves us as players, and he's going to go out there and play as hard as he can," Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday said.

  • Pelicans reportedly would have been fined $100,000 per game sitting Anthony Davis

The NBA was planning to fine the Pelicans $100,000 per game if they sat Anthony Davis to protect his trade value. The New Orleans Pelicans announced they plan to reincorporate star Anthony Davis back into their lineup after not trading him before the deadline on Thursday. Many assumed the Pelicans would simply sit Davis through the rest of the season as a way to keep him healthy and protect his value as a trade asset — which would be a completely logical thing to do, as he's made it clear he wants to be traded and will not re-sign with the team in 2020. If Davis gets hurt, his trade value will plummet.

  • Jimmy Butler discusses his beef with Karl-Anthony Towns and other confrontations

In a wide-ranging sit-down dinner interview with Jimmy Butler, Yahoo Sports senior writer Chris Haynes covered everything with the four-time All-Star from his upcoming free agency to where he got his confrontational personality from (the NBA can thank Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah for that). It came during a conversation about Butler's controversial trade request from the Minnesota Timberwolves, as Haynes raised the point that Butler's interaction with teammates in the locker room belied reports of his infamous practice blowup. “Ain't nothing personal, man,” said Butler, who was subsequently traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in mid-November.

  • Towns crier: T-wolves big man emotional over All-Star honor

Karl-Anthony Towns sat on a hallway couch outside the movie theater, hunched over a tiny screen to watch the live unveiling of this year's NBA All-Star teams. When the image of Minnesota's blossoming big man appeared on the screen during TNT's broadcast of the announcement, signaling his second consecutive selection as a reserve, he dropped the smartphone on the floor and started to cry. His parents approached for congratulatory hugs a few seconds later.
