  • Nearly healthy, Nuggets start second half at Mavs

The Denver Nuggets begin the season's post-All-Star stretch run with momentum at their backs and with visions of challenging the defending champion Golden State Warriors for the top spot in the Western Conference. It starts Friday night in Dallas against the retooling Dallas Mavericks, an important matchup for the surprisingly steady Nuggets (39-18) -- who went into the break winners of two straight and 10 of 14 -- because the schedule's degree of difficulty quickly ramps up. After Friday's game, the Nuggets return home to face the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans.

  • NBA notebook: Knee soreness sidelines Embiid

Joel Embiid's return from the All-Star break is expected to be delayed as the Philadelphia 76ers forward/center is experiencing left knee soreness, the team announced Wednesday. In addition, an MRI on the right knee of guard/forward Furkan Korkmaz revealed a meniscus tear, with a surgical procedure a possibility to repair the injury. According to Sixers vice president of athlete care Daniel Medina, Embiid will be out of action immediately and will be re-evaluated in one week.

  • Antetokounmpo's Bucks edge Celtics to extend lead in Eastern Conference

The Milwaukee Bucks earned a 98-97 victory over the Boston Celtics in the NBA on Thursday. Both the Bucks, the number one team in the East, and the Celtics – the team many thought would be number one by season's end — started out sloppily, likely shaking off the All-Star break cobwebs. But they both came alive in the fourth quarter, swapping big defensive plays and clutch baskets to trade the lead several times in the final few minutes.

  • Irving says call to LeBron was about 'apologizing'

Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving expanded Wednesday on the telephone call he made to LeBron James earlier this season, recounting that he told his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate, "I didn't have to deal with that the same way I dealt with that." Irving broke down the phone call with ESPN's Rachel Nichols, saying his contact James, now with the Los Angeles Lakers, was needed to move forward. Irving and James led the Cavaliers to a NBA championship in 2016, but the duo could not repeat the feat in 2017 and Irving eventually requested a trade.

  • NBA Buzz: The city of Chicago has next for All-Star Weekend

LaVine is averaging 23 points per game right now, but didn't get a sniff from the coaches who are responsible for selecting the All-Star reserves. Markkannen missed the first two months of the season, but he's been playing like an All-Star lately, averaging 23.7 points and 12.6 rebounds over his last 7 games. It's hard to predict how free agency will affect the balance of power between the East and West heading into next season, but when you consider guys like Nikola Vucevic, Kyle Lowry, Khris Middleton and D'Angelo Russell were named as reserves for the East this year, you'd have to think either Markkanen or LaVine would have a decent shot at being selected next February if the Bulls' recor...
