  • Charles Barkley invites LeBron James on TNT during NBA playoffs: 'You ain't got nothing to do'

This season marked the first time since the 2004-05 campaign that LeBron James is absent from the NBA playoffs. But James, who just finished his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers, can participate in the playoffs in a different way if he chooses. Charles Barkley wants James to join the crew of “Inside the NBA” on TNT, and he made the request in a way only Barkley can.

  • Pacers, Celtics enter playoff matchup looking for redemption

And neither team wants to focus on the inconsistencies that have gnawed at Celtics coach Brad Stevens and Pacers coach Nate McMillan throughout the season. Both teams began 2018-19 expecting to challenge for the Eastern Conference throne abdicated by LeBron James' departure to the Los Angeles Lakers. The only thing certain as the fifth-seeded Pacers and fourth-seeded Celtics take the TD Garden floor on Sunday is both teams still believe they can find redemption in the postseason.

  • Luke Walton out as Lakers coach

Just a handful of days after Magic Johnson abruptly stepped down as the head of Lakers' basketball operations — in part because he was not comfortable firing the coach — the Lakers and coach Luke Walton have mutually agreed to part ways, according to the team. With Magic gone, there was uncertainty around the organization and the perception that Walton would not be let go quickly. Walton could read the writing on the wall, he didn't have the full weight and backing of LeBron James — LeBron's exit interview was with Magic and GM Rob Pelinka, not Walton — he was never Pelinka's guy, and Walton knew what was coming.

  • Luke Walton reportedly reaches deal to become Sacramento head coach

Luke Walton was not out of a job for long. Officially fired After coming to a “mutual agreement” to leave the Lakers on Friday (it was more of the crossed out part than the official line) Walton met on Saturday with Kings' GM Vlade Divac and quickly came to terms to take over as the Kings' head coach. As noted by Cunningham, Divac had interest three years ago but Walton wanted to return to the Lakers organization.

Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Mark Madsen has been hired as the new head coach at Utah Valley, ESPN reported Sunday. • NBA notebook: Kings reportedly to hire Walton as head coach

The 76ers fined veteran center Amir Johnson an undisclosed amount for showing teammate Joel Embiid his cell phone on the bench late in a 111-102 loss to the Brooklyn Nets in Game 1 of their playoff series. TV cameras caught Johnson on the bench in the fourth quarter, when the 76ers were 16 points down and he was scrolling through his phone. After showing Embiid something on his phone, Johnson put it into the pocket of his warm-ups.

  • Pat Riley wants to finish career in Miami, has no interest in returning to Lakers

While many think Pat Riley is the perfect replacement for Magic Johnson in Los Angeles, the former Lakers coach has no interest in moving back to the West Coast. Miami Heat president Pat Riley has a long history with the Los Angeles Lakers. Riley served as an assistant coach for three seasons in Los Angeles before being promoted to the head job — which he held from 1981-90, leading the team to four NBA championships.

  • Luke Walton never had a chance with the dysfunctional mess known as the Lakers

This day was coming the moment word got out that Magic Johnson delivered a tongue lashing to Luke Walton about his coaching methods weeks into the season: Walton would eventually be dismissed as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Everything that's happened since hasn't been as much confirmation as it has been shrubbery around the main course, from the confusing to the bizarre to the unfortunate circumstances that have plagued the NBA's most glamorous franchise in a season that was supposed to be a revival. What we've found out, layer by layer, is the franchise appears restrained by self-made standards, complexities that would be hard for any first-time head coach to navigate.
