  • Warriors, Kings tip off season's second half

    Two teams that could find themselves as playoff opponents for the first time later this spring meet for the final time in the regular season Thursday night when the Sacramento Kings take on the Golden State Warriors in Oakland, Calif. The Warriors (41-16) finished the NBA's "first half" with the best record in the Western Conference and, if the playoffs had started today, would have been paired with the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers (32-27) in the first round. The Kings (30-27) entered the break tied with the Clippers in the loss column, but one game behind due to two fewer wins.

  • Davis says Celtics among NBA clubs he'd gladly join

    New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis said Saturday he would welcome a trade to the Boston Celtics or any other NBA team, stretching his desired list of prospective new clubs. The 25-year-old forward repeated his desire to play in Sunday's 68th NBA All-Star Game but said he would have to see how his bruised left shoulder felt ahead of tip-off in Charlotte, North Carolina. Davis has been the talk of the NBA the past couple of weeks since he confirmed what his agent revealed, that the star big man wants a trade from the Pelicans and won't sign a new long-term deal with New Orleans.

  • Pelicans fire GM Demps after Davis 'dumpster fire': reports

    Dell Demps was fired as general manager of the NBA's New Orleans Pelicans according to multiple reports Friday after what coach Alvin Gentry called a "dumpster fire" surrounding star Anthony Davis. Demps, who had served as general manager of the team since 2010, was dropped barely a week after the NBA trade deadline passed, ESPN and the New Orleans Times Picayune reported, with Davis still on the Pelicans roster despite saying he wanted a transfer to an NBA title contender. Davis said he will not sign a long-term extension with the Pelicans, leaving him to play out the final year of his contract with New Orleans next season or be shipped out for whatever they can get.

    Gordon Hayward scored 26 points off the bench to lead the visiting Boston Celtics past the Philadelphia 76ers 112-109 on Tuesday in a game full of playoff atmosphere. Al Horford scored 23 points while Jayson Tatum added 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Celtics snapped a two-game losing streak. All-Star guard Kyrie Irving sat out with an injured knee.

    Williams scored 30 points and had 10 assists in 22 minutes as the Clippers routed the Phoenix Suns 134-107. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he is the first player in NBA history with at least 30 points and 10 assists in fewer than 23 minutes. It was also the 27th game of his 13-year career in which he has scored 30 or more off the bench, tying Ricky Pierce.
