  • Even Kyrie can't stop watching Marcus Smart highlights

Even Kyrie can't stop watching Marcus Smart highlights originally appeared on nbcsportsboston.com WASHINGTON, D.C. - On his way to meet with reporters on Wednesday night, Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving took a moment to dap up teammate Marcus Smart as they crossed paths near the media scrum. It wouldn't be the only time that Irving showed appreciation for his new partner in Boston's starting backcourt. "I'm so grateful he's on our team, you know, really," said Irving, who might not have had a chance to hit all the big late-game shots if not for Smart's energy jolt that woke up a lethargic Celtics team in the second half when they rallied from 11 down to win.

  • 'Deja vu all over again' for Celtics' Smart after Mavericks loss

The Boston Celtics' loss to the Dallas Mavericks was "deja vu all over again" for Marcus Smart as their underwhelming start to the season continued. Boston slumped to a 113-104 defeat on Saturday, dropping the Celtics to 10-10 through the first 20 games. Viewed as favourites in the East going into the campaign, the Celtics are now six games behind the conference-leading Toronto Raptors and have lost eight of their past 12 games.

  • Marcus Smart: 'We don't impose our fear and will on other teams'

Marcus Smart said opponents no longer fear the Celtics and Boston's inability to impose their will on opposing players, particularly on the defensive end, is part of the reason the team finds itself with a disappointing 10-10 record at the quarter pole of the season. On the heels of a 113-104 loss on Saturday night in his hometown of Dallas, an exasperated Smart said he had few answers to explain Boston's inconsistencies but suggested the Celtics need to get their swagger back by playing with the sort of effort that discouraged opponents. Like, we don't impose our fear and will on other teams," Smart told reporters when asked about Boston's current inconsistencies.

  • Marcus Smart tells Boston Herald that Celtics are 'playing like punks'

A week and a half ago after a loss in Portland ended a 1-4 trip, Marcus Smart made what by all accounts was an impassioned plea to his teammates to step up their effort. The Celtics have gone 2-3 since to fall to 9-9 and a season of lofty expectations is heading perilously in the wrong direction. After their worst loss of the season, 117-109 to the 5-14 Knicks on Wednesday night - in which the C's trailed by 26 at one point - Smart blasted his team for playing like punks.
