  • Smart play: Celtics should focus on their own free agents

For the past two summers, the Celtics hit free agency armed with a clear and undeniable plan – to add a top one on the market. Two years ago, that approach landed them Al Horford, who left Atlanta after nine seasons. While the Celtics are once again being rumored to be a possible option for the top free agent on the market – LeBron James – there's a sense among league executives that Boston's free-agent focus will be more internal than past years.

  • Celtics one of several teams to vie for Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard has reportedly begun the buyout process with the Brooklyn Nets, seeking to become a free agent this summer and in doing so, latch on with a title contender. Several teams will vie for his services, including the Boston Celtics. Remember, Howard was considered a "Plan B" option for Boston a couple years ago if the Celtics failed to land their top choice Al Horford who as it turned out, was replaced in Atlanta by Howard.

  • Boston fans who think LeBron James will be a Celtic must be suffering Super Bowl hangover

Here's the issue with Bostonians thinking they have a shot at LeBron James: You're not living in reality. See, in the NBA, there's something called a "salary cap." And when you sign an OK player like Al Horford to LeBron-like money, that salary cap starts getting eaten up pretty quickly. Speaking of big contracts, remember when the Celtics traded for Kyrie Irving?

  • No Love for Game 7 doesn't necessarily mean advantage Celtics

BOSTON –The idea of the Cavs going into a must-win Game 7 without Kevin Love, who's in the NBA concussion protocol and won't play Sunday night, should put the Celtics at a significant advantage, right? One of the keys to Boston's success has been the impact Al Horford makes offensively, particularly at home. Horford has been at his best as a scorer in this series when matched up against Love.

  • Celtics coach defends 'outstanding' Horford over Game 6

To any detractors of Al Horford, Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens has his back. Horford came under media scrutiny following the Celtics' 109-99 loss at Cleveland in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals Friday night. In the series-tying defeat, Boston's veteran center only took two first-half shots and went scoreless in the first two quarters as the Cavaliers took control of the game -- primarily in the second quarter.
