  • Kemba Walker's on the trade block because sometimes you make one mess to clean up another

On Thursday morning, the Charlotte Hornets and their fans were riding high. The team had just welcomed Steve Clifford back to the bench after he’d been sidelined for more than a month by severe headaches spurred by sleep deprivation, and celebrated their head coach’s return by (almost literally) pummeling the Washington Wizards behind a franchise-record 77-point first half before finishing with 133, the highest-scoring performance by any Charlotte team in more than 11 years. Come Friday morning, though, Hornets fans got one hell of a buzzkill, courtesy of ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski: Charlotte’s reportedly making point guard Kemba Walker available in trade talks.

  • Wizards have had major trouble in revenge games this season

The Wizards have had several games this season where they had every reason to be extra motivated from a previous loss, but have fallen remarkably short in the rematch. The Wizards travelled into Charlotte to see the 18-25 Hornets who beat them in overtime back on Nov. 22 in the same building. It was an opportunity for the Wizards to right a wrong and buck the narrative of their season.

  • Hornets hammer Wizards 133-109 in Clifford's return

Nic Batum said it felt like old times having coach Steve Clifford back on the bench Wednesday night. 'Even when we were up 25 points, he was still screaming at us, still wasn't happy,' Batum said with a laugh. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 21 points, Dwight Howard had another double-double and the Charlotte Hornets used a record-setting first half to beat the Washington Wizards 133-109 in Clifford's first game since Dec. 1.

  • Hornets-Wiz scuffle ends in two ejections, Dwight doing the Sam Cassell dance

On Wednesday evening, it was the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets getting frisky in the fourth quarter of a blowout. The Hornets had annihilated the sleepwalking Wizards, putting up a franchise-record 77 points in the first half and leading by as many as 28 due to a balanced effort that saw seven Charlotte players score in double figures. With the Hornets leading 123-99 and just over four minutes remaining, Wizards big man Jason Smith set a stiff screen on Michael Carter-Williams, which the Hornets guard did not appear to appreciate.

  • Hornets coach Clifford back on bench versus Wizards

Coach Steve Clifford returns to the bench Wednesday night after a five-week absence when the Charlotte Hornets host the Washington Wizards. The 56-year-old, fifth-year coach is aware of the Hornets' predicament. Both of those stats got a boost Monday when the Hornets made a one-day trip to Detroit and surprised the Pistons 118-107.
