  • Kawhi Leonard will miss Spurs season opener, Gregg Popovich says

Kawhi Leonard will miss the San Antonio Spurs season opener with continued rehabilitation a left quadriceps injury, head coach Gregg Popovich said on Friday. Leonard has missed the entire preseason with this injury. He suffered from an left quadriceps injury in 2012 and a right quadriceps injury in 2016, and there is currently no timetable for his return. “I don’t gauge it,” Popovich told reporters. “He’s still rehabbing and when he’s ready, he’ll be ready. I try not to qualify it.” Leonard is the do-everything-star for the Spurs, who the team relies on immensely on both sides of the ball. He finished third in the MVP last year and is the current front runner for MVP, although it’s obviously

  • Report: Kawhi Leonard will sit out Spurs regular season opener

San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard, who missed the preseason with a quadriceps injury that lingered from last season, will see that injury extends into the regular season — he is out for the season opener and maybe more, reports Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio News-Express. All-Star small forward Kawhi Leonard is not expected to play in Wednesday’s season opener against Minnesota at the AT&T Center, coach Gregg Popovich said Friday. “He won’t be available,” Popovich said before the Spurs’ preseason finale against Houston.

  • Kawhi Leonard will miss preseason to rehab his quad

Kawhi Leonard will miss the entire preseason, according to a release by the Spurs, as he continues rehabilitation for “right quadriceps tendinopathy.” That’s a fancy way of addressing tendinitis, which Leonard has experienced in his knee before. The Spurs also said that a timeline for his return will be determined at “a later date.” With just three weeks until the season starts, that’s concerning, but it’s too soon for Spurs fans to panic. Head coach Gregg Popovich spoke to the media about the injury on Saturday, indicating the injury stems from last year. This is a separate injury from the one that kept Leonard out of the 2017 conference finals series against the Warriors, though, when he was infamously tripped up by the outstretched foot of Zaza Pachulia.
