  • Rumor: Portland coach Terry Stotts could lose job after being swept out of playoffs

Regular season: Terry Stotts was mentioned as a Coach of the Year candidate after leading the Portland Trail Blazers to 49 wins and the three seed in the West, led by a top 10 defense. Playoffs: Portland was swept out of the postseason in the first round by Anthony Davis. The latter part of that is going to lead to some real soul searching and changes coming to the Trail Blazers.

  • Pelicans look to pull off sweep of Trail Blazers

Before the 2017-18 regular season began, any conversation regarding the New Orleans Pelicans and brooms had something to do with the possibility the team would clean house. Energized on both ends of the court, the Pelicans have the broom ready Saturday at the Smoothie King Center to sweep the faltering Portland Trail Blazers out of the Western Conference playoffs with a fourth consecutive victory in the first-round series. With a win Saturday, the Pelicans would become the first playoff team seeded sixth or lower to sweep a first-round playoff series since the 2001 Charlotte Hornets swept the Miami Heat 3-0 in a best-of-five series.

Mirotic scored 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Davis collected 28 points and 11 boards for New Orleans, which will try to sweep the best-of-seven series at home on Saturday. Rajon Rondo chipped in 16 points and 11 assists for the Pelicans, who led by 33 points with seven minutes to play.

  • Holiday, Pelicans in driver's seat vs. Blazers

This series was supposed to be about the Portland Trail Blazers' dynamic backcourt duo of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum. Instead, it has been a referendum on the best guard on the court -- New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday -- whose relentless defensive pressure and unstoppable drives into the lane have earned New Orleans a commanding 2-0 advantage with Game 3 of the best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series set for Thursday night at the Smoothie King Center. "I may be a little bit biased, but if you can tell me a better two-way player in the league right now ... I'm willing to listen," New Orleans head coach Alvin Gentry said after Holiday scored a playoff career-high 33 points and had nine assists in a 111-102 victory in Portland on Tuesday night.

  • Mirotic, Davis lead Pelicans to 3-0 series lead over Blazers

Nikola Mirotic watched his third 3-pointer of the first half swish through the hoop, turned to acknowledge the raucous, roaring crowd and raised his first triumphantly as he trotted back up court. Portland had a hard enough time dealing with Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis and the New Orleans backcourt of Jrue Holiday and Rajon Rondo in Games 1 and 2. Pile on the finest playoff performance of Mirotic's four NBA seasons, and the rout was on in Game 3.
