  • Joel Embiid tells Ben Simmons he needs to dunk on Lonzo Ball so LaVar ‘runs on the court’ to save him

LaVar Ball has been pretty outspoken so far during the NBA draft. Then, he guaranteed Lonzo would take the Lakers to the playoffs his first year. The Philadelphia 76ers’ young stars, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, don’t seem too entertained with it all.

  • Who was picked first in last year's NBA draft?

The Philadelphia 76ers selected Ben Simmons from LSU with the first pick in the 2016 NBA draft. Simmons averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists and was a consensus first-team All-American in his lone year at LSU. Simmons joined Shaquille O'Neal (1992) as the only other Tiger to be taken No. 1 in the NBA draft.

  • Why LeBron James Teaming with Lonzo Ball at L.A. Lakers Is a Bad Idea

Lonzo Ball is probably going to the Los Angeles Lakers via the second pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. And LeBron James may yet head west to Staples Center in the summer of 2018, when he can opt out of his Cleveland deal. Lonzo wants James to opt for the

  • 2017 NBA draft grades: Lonzo Ball the clear philosophical fit for the Lakers

After finishing out another lackluster 82 games, the Lakers haven't had any problem generating headlines at the start of the offseason. Last season, the Lakers also held the second pick in the draft, tapping Duke small forward Brandon Ingram to come aboard. It's long been rumored the team will use the second overall pick this year on UCLA star Lonzo Ball, who's worked out with the team multiple times recently and has made his desire to play for Lakers very public.

  • Lakers great Magic Johnson picks successor in Lonzo Ball

By Lewis Krauskopf NEW YORK (Reuters) - Magic Johnson revolutionized the point guard position during his career with the Los Angeles Lakers and on Thursday, in his new role of running the team, picked a player in his own image to lead them back to contention. With the second overall pick of the NBA Draft, the Lakers selected 19-year-old local standout Lonzo Ball of UCLA, a player capable of reviving the fast-paced 'Showtime' style that Johnson made famous. At 6-foot-6, Ball is tall for his position, like Johnson was, and similarly heralded for his brilliant passing and ability to push the pace and run the fast break.

  • It's time for LaVar Ball to take a backseat to his son Lonzo

Lonzo Ball slipped out of a warm New York afternoon and into the cool confines of the Barclays Center on Thursday afternoon wearing black dress shoes that perfectly matched his NBA draft night black-on-black suit-and-shirt combo. Meanwhile members of his family took turns carrying a bag, the contents of which were a perfect encapsulation of his future (the Los Angeles Lakers as the second overall selection), his present (part of a self-promoting, wing-and-a-prayer family business) and hopefully a break from his past (the relentlessness of his father, LaVar). The moment Philadelphia picked Markelle Fultz No. 1 overall, Lonzo kicked off his dress shoes and slipped on the sneakers.

  • LaVar Ball on Lonzo, the Lakers and whether he plans to change

LaVar Ball has grabbed so many headlines for his polarizing behavior that one might have thought he was the one getting drafted Thursday night in Brooklyn – not his son Lonzo. Ball, in New York City with projected second overall pick Lonzo, as well as sons LiAngelo and LaMelo — also both committed to UCLA — caught up with Yahoo Sports from his midtown hotel room the day of the draft. Not surprisingly, it didn’t take him long to offer up a series of predictions, including Lonzo winning Rookie of the Year while guiding the Lakers to a 50-win playoff season and, eventually, all three Ball brothers for the Lakers.

  • Hawks send center Dwight Howard to Hornets

Dwight Howard's Atlanta homecoming was short-lived. The Hawks sent Howard and the No. 31 overall pick in Thursday's NBA draft to Charlotte for center Miles Plumlee, shooting guard Marco Belinelli and the 41st pick, getting the deal completed late Tuesday night. Howard, an eight-time All-Star and three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, will be playing for his third team in three seasons following a disappointing one-year return to his Atlanta hometown.
