  • Rockets look to stay unbeaten with Paul

While there are many hurdles left for the Houston Rockets to clear en route to cementing their status as legitimate title contenders, the challenge they faced and conquered Saturday night in Portland could prove landmark as opponents continue canvasing methods to keep the Rockets' high-powered offense contained. The Trail Blazers' gambit was clear: Keep the Rockets inside the arc and siphon off their unique ability to bury foes with volume 3-point shooting. Singularly, that strategy worked as Portland limited Houston to just 25 3-point attempts, roughly 20 below the Rockets' league-leading average.

  • Man convicted of Moses Malone Jr. beating in retaliation for James Harden criticism

Darian Blount (center) was convicted in the 2016 beating of Moses Malone Jr. (left) in alleged defense of James Harden’s honor. A former strip-club bouncer has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for allegedly orchestrating the beating of Moses Malone Jr. after the Hall of Fame basketball player’s son shared a post critical of Houston Rockets star James Harden on Facebook. Darian Blount, 40, was convicted of the aggravated robbery of Malone on Thursday, almost 18 months after a group of men, some allegedly armed, beat the NBA legend’s son and robbed him of $50,000 in jewelry outside the since-shuttered V Live Houston nightclub, according to the Houston Chronicle.

  • Was this the worst weekend of Lonzo Ball's Lakers career so far?

Life in the National Basketball Association isn’t getting any easier for Lonzo Ball. Ball, the Lakers rookie point guard and their great hope for the middle future, at least, had one of the more traumatic weekends of his NBA career so far as his team lost again, and again, to the Nuggets and the Rockets. The Lakers have lost five games in a row, which is bad news even in a season when losing is mostly okay, if it comes with promise attached. On Saturday, against the Nuggets, Ball registered nine points, nine rebounds, nine assists and five turnovers as the Lakers collapsed in the fourth quarter. That game ended in a scuffle as the Lakers rushed to defend Ball from perceived mockery by Jamal Murray.
