  • James Harden and the Rockets snatched away the Wolves' hope with one historic quarter

Coming off a loss in Minneapolis on Saturday night, the NBA’s presumptive 2017-18 Most Valuable Player opened Game 4 of his Houston Rockets’ first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves ice cold, missing his first seven shots from the field against the fierce defense of Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins and Taj Gibson, among others. Without a revved-up Harden to ignite their high-powered offense, as he has all year long, the Rockets sputtered to just 21 first-quarter points and 38 percent shooting in the first half. Houston and Minnesota battled to a 21-21 tie after the first 12 minutes, and the Rockets were clinging to a one-point lead at halftime, 50-49.

  • Report: Van Gundy to meet with Pistons owner

Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations and coach Stan Van Gundy will learn more about his future next week when he sits down with team owner Tom Gores, according to an ESPN report published Thursday night. Van Gundy and his staff are on shaky ground after Detroit (39-43) missed the postseason despite the acquisition of star forward Blake Griffin from the Los Angeles Clippers. As many teams throughout the league focused on improving their draft position by losing, Detroit tried -- and failed -- to win.
