    The Bulls have a core of their future in Lauri Markkanen, but after the incident between Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic the team was forced to pick between the two moving forward. The Bulls opted to trade the red-hot Mirotic to the Pelicans on Feb. 1, opening a door for Portis for more playing time while continuing to develop Markkanen. Portis blossomed in his third NBA season, averaging 13.2 points, 6.8 rebounds while hitting a career-best 36 percent from deep.

    After coach Fred Hoiberg went home sick, rookie Lauri Markkanen and the Chicago Bulls came out shooting feverishly. Markkanen scored 23 points and connected on 5 of 8 3-pointers to lead Chicago to a 113-94 win over the Washington Wizards on Sunday. Bobby Portis had 18 points and hit 4 of 5 from long range, and Sean Kilpatrick added 14 points.

    A resurgent Tim Hardaway Jr. had 22 points to lead the New York Knicks to their first back-to-back wins since late January with a 110-92 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Monday night at Madison Square Garden. Cristiano Felicio had 17 points and Antonio Blakeney and Bobby Portis both had 16 off the bench to lead the Bulls, who were without three of their most important players -- Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and Lauri Markkanen -- as they lost for the third time in four games. Hardaway had 17 of his points in the third quarter, when the Knicks broke the game open.

  • Portis leads Bulls to late comeback against Mavs

    Bobby Portis hit three consecutive shots in the fourth quarter to complete a Chicago comeback as the Bulls overcame a slow start and a 14-point deficit to outlast the Dallas Mavericks 108-100 Friday night at United Center in Chicago. The Bulls were able to snap a five-game losing streak while handing the Mavericks a 13th loss in their last 16 games. After scoring the game's first 10 points, the Mavericks led until a layup by Portis drew the Bulls even at 96-all with 4:09 remaining.

  • Portis leads late rally, Bulls beat Mavs 108-100

    Bobby Portis and the Chicago Bulls finally broke through with a late burst that made the difference. Portis scored 22 points and made three straight shots during the decisive run in the fourth quarter to help Chicago roar back and beat the Dallas Mavericks 108-100 on Friday night. Portis had 15 in the second half and Chicago used a 16-4 run in the final five minutes to end a five-game losing streak.
