  • Hornets have tough matchup agaiinst Covington, 76ers

Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons -- and a long-time veteran like J.J. Redick, Robert Covington has gone a bit under-the-radar for the Philadelphia 76ers this season. On Friday against the Brooklyn Nets, though, Covington basked in the limelight of a clutch last-minute 3-pointer -- a huge shot with 36 seconds left to give the 76ers a one-point lead in a game they won, 120-116. Monday, Covington gets another favorable matchup with the Charlotte Hornets coming to town.

  • Sixers avoid another near-disaster with comeback

The Sixers got back on track at the Wells Fargo Center with a 120-116 down-to-the-wire win Friday over the Nets. The Sixers moved up to 38-30 with the victory while the Nets fell to 22-48. • Fans sang "Happy Birthday" to Joel Embiid while he shot free throws and then got creative with a new chant: "E-M-B-I-I-D Embiid" to the tune of "E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles." Embiid posted 24 points, a career-high 19 rebounds, four assists and two blocks in spite of shooting 6 for 23 from the field.

  • On his birthday, Embiid delivers present to fans

Most Sixers fans probably could've predicted the 2-0 result of the Sixers' back-to-back swing against the Knicks and the Nets, but the expenditure of energy it'd take to get there was hard to see coming. One night after needing a fourth-quarter comeback to escape from New York, the Sixers went even further down to the wire against Brooklyn at home, needing a huge final-minute three from Robert Covington and some savvy playing of the foul game from T.J. McConnell to squeak out the 120-116 win. Both one of the biggest reasons the Nets were able to hang around and one of the biggest reasons the Sixers won anyway was the birthday boy himself, Joel Embiid.

  • Embiid leads 76ers past Nets

A sellout crowd of nearly 21,000 serenaded Joel Embiid for his birthday, and Embiid showed his gratitude by powering Philadelphia to another win. Embiid had 24 points and a career-high 19 rebounds and Robert Covington hit a key 3-pointer to lead the 76ers to a 120-116 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. 'They've shown me a lot of support since I got here and I appreciate it,' said Embiid, who turned 24 on Friday.

  • Nets-76ers Preview

Philadelphia trailed by eight or more for much of the matchup with the Knicks before turning it on with a 35-19 fourth quarter behind Joel Embiid, who had 29 points in the win, Philadelphia's second in three games. The game will be a rematch of the two teams' matchup last Sunday, which Philadelphia won 120-97. "I think we're learning," 76ers coach Brett Brown told reporters after that game.
